Hi Steve.
I have ridden one and they are a well engineered (ie Honda) bike but it's based on a trials bike with a bigger fuel tank and different gears in the box other than top.
It's great on tight and nadgery stuff but no so much on the road.
There is a good review here www.visordown.com/reviews/first-ride/first-ride-montesa-4ride-review.

Yes I have one lovey bike Its a Honda trials bike with a seat and as said it will tackle the technical stuff with ease and grips the ground and climbers like a trials bike its small light and fun bike and in demand as can be seen by the 2nd hand prices.
It will take me up climbs that would have me dab footing and slipping all over the place on my xr250 or TTr 250 but if you come from a endure bike background you will be left wanting as endure bike it is not but if you are from a trials background or age is catching up with you then you will love it want see one in the flesh I'm in Crediton tip me a knock hear

Mate I know no button start had me thinking at first but kick wise she's a baby its a prod start on it not a kickstart it starts real gentle kick start first go most times you could do it with your hand. the seat is high for the size of the bike. The move up from a serow would be TTR250 with a lowering link lots of nice well looked after TTrs around just ask hear to see the fans of the model or pop over and see us on the TTr forum I have a drop link on my TTr and its lower than the 4ride but is a bigger bike

4Ride is very light, about 82kg, so 20kg less than a 2T KTM, in reality

I would think it would be perfect for the Devon lanes, being the most technical in the UK

OTT

I posted this back in 2016 when JT was looking at one, science then Im aware the price had dropped.

right so this is only my opinion but i like you thought the 4ride was going to be for me,I now have a 350 Freeride with a EXP core Rekluse which is superb for the lanes.(for me)

1. Fuel......4 and a bit litres and 40/50 miles if you're lucky.

2. Idle speed set high to support battery less kick starting resulting in revs being high on closed throttle in gear, you get 'dragged' along having to use rear brake to slow yourself down, having it set so high takes away engine braking at low speed particularly down hill, reducing idle speed effects kick starting and it then becomes a pig to start!

3. Kick starter, it's a pain, short little lever and as you sit in the bike rather than on it (I'm 5.10) you need to fully stand to complete one full sweep from the highest point which it needs to get it to go,after a mishap or stalling it (which is now impossible with the KTM) it never started on the first kick,it was impossible for me to start it with a straight leg,my lower leg was always at 90 degrees from my thigh due to the position of the bars.

4. Side stand...... it's on the right! Just messed with my mind after nearly 45 years of riding.

5. Gear lever...... impossible to reach without taking your foot off the peg, again after so long could not adjust to that and caused balance issues when trying to change gear in technical bits of lanes.

6. rear brake pedal........ limited adjustment, again just what I'm used to,have always ridden with ball of foot over top of pedal with a little bit of play before bite, impossible to set up,had to ride with foot either out to right or ball of foot on peg (as I do on my road bike) which did not feel right.

7. handlebars ...... very low, can't stand up without being hunched right over resulting in back ache so stopped standing up! No risers available and mounts face back rather than up so any height improvement would also push them back.

8. maintenance .... the whole seat and side panel section needs to come out for the simplest of tasks,8/10 bolts , about 20 mins to get it all out before you start.

9. I'm not a bling man but I do like a bit if exclusivity! There is nothing available for it.

10. It's light, yes I know that's a bonus but so am I (10st) it just felt too light and skittish on the lanes, it lacks any 'proper' suspension set up to tweak.

its a cota 4rt with a seat , lights and gear mods...... a trial bike with a seat!

11. dont go through any water, the air box is located way below seat height and will flood in a puddle,

i found it boring and bland for the price,I think it's still overpriced for what it is.

there you go!
