In the past week we have worked with the leaders of the UKs principal motorcycle organisations to ensure that the needs of over one million motorcyclists are considered during lockdown exit plans.

 

Sports scientists in the UK have played a lead role in demonstrating the value leisure motorcycling has as a form of exercise beneficial to both physical fitness and mental wellbeing. Accordingly, motorcycling is recognised as a sport by Sport UK.

 

Maintaining restrictions on motorcycling without good reason will unduly affect millions of people over the next few weeks, including both the well-being of riders and the £7.8bn UK motorcycle economy currently at a standstill.

 

When safe to do so, we seek the same explicit freedom to enjoy travel for leisure and exercise purposes as walkers, cyclists and car drivers providing social distancing measures are met. We understand motorcycling to be an inherently socially distanced activity.

 

Motorcyclings role in lockdown exit will be discussed during a video call between principal organisations today.

 

This afternoon the Prime Minister published a 50-page blueprint for the next stage in combating the virus before engaging in a one-hour discussion with MPs followed by a Q&A with members of the public.

 

We will publish a further bulletin tomorrow once specific guidance has been obtained from the Governments blueprint and look forward to making a joint response with the UKs principal motorcycling organisations as lockdown measures are eased.

 

We fully support ongoing action to prevent transmission of the virus.

As much as I'd love to be able to get out on my bike I'm not sure it's within the scope of the new rules from Wednesday!
So sadly I'll be keeping the bike parked for now and protecting our wonderful NHS.
Stay safe all. :)

Don't see an issue on riding solo from tomorrow as we ride roads. Even two riders together should be okay as you are allowed to interact with one other member from another household providing social distances is adhered to.

Groups would likely be an issue because they would attract unwanted attention and criticism. Either way keep it safe an sensible.

Two separate incidents involving mountain bikes during lock down in Devon (or government restrictions as I prefer to say) both cyclist went arse over tit, funnily enough both riders sustained broken collar bones! these incidents occurred on different days 

Ambulance was called to one with multiple breaks in the collar bone, ambulance got stuck in the field so I'm guessing it had to be towed out of said field, paramedics ambulance tied up unnecessarily whilst we are enduring some bad times on the planet at the moment 

Both riders were different age groups and unrelated to each other, separate incidents! 

Yep we could have an accident where ever or what ever we are doing but do we need to be putting the extra pressure on NHS resources at this point in time? 

Public perception wink

The advice seems pretty clear in that it's now considered okay to ride your bike for pleasure purposes as long as it's NOT with others, with the exception of a pillion from the same household.

At the end of the day, riding your bike for pleasure in England only is now an option and it's up to you.

looks to me like riding with one other maintaining social distance is also ok. Its hard to see what the difference between mountain biking and greenlaning is in covid 19 terms. Closed face helmets also offer some protection. Some lanes might be a bit narrow to pass in but apart from that all seems ok.

 

Still feels a bit uncomfortable though.

Good summary on the MCN site for general road riding so Im out this weekend as cant stand any longer wheeling both bikes out onto the drive starting them and then putting them back in.

7 weeks and enough is enough so the government says I can now ride to the coast etc as long as I stick to the social distancing rules so thats good enough for me.
