as per title completely blocked by a big tree. I reckon you could clear a path through with some special tools but the trunk across the lane above you is a big bugger.
Ros you recently mentioned that the PRoW wardens would be happy to have assistance on the UCR network, hopefully we can make this a reality
Weve had a photo received by one of our members of the Devon TRF about a tree blocking this UCR in Dawlish, looks like a dead tree which has blown down from the bank on the Southern side located on the Western side of the river/stream
Please find photos attached of the tree and location map provided, (Ive drawn an arrow on the map where I believe its located) could be an Oak or Elm not quite sure from the photo, apart form the top of the tree being dead
The UCR in question could do with a volunteer clearance team once bird nesting season is over with
Happy to deal with said tree removal if required with volunteer help
Insurance details can be attached from my business plus my chainsaw qualification along with all correct PPE will be worn on site, Hi vis if required?
Huge thanks to all the responses from the lads in the DTRF, we might need to react to this or these obstructions really quick, 'Rapid response team to deploy'
Might be as soon as Sunday morning! They'll find it hard to resist the wackmeisters offers
Keep the offers of help coming as we might need a team of six or eight, spotters for potential users are just as valuable too, this needs some planning and sensible people on site, we have it all at hand, time to shine lads
Dear both,
Coincidentally, I've just walked the route and found two trees across. The large Oak at the eastern end will require specialist attention I think, as is quite large and hung up. The dead Elm across at head height, would be more straightforward cut and clear.
However, thanks to being alerted to the route I came across other works required, scraping the mud from most of the path and clearing the build up of debris from the footbridge.
I'd be more than happy for TRF involvement on any or all of the tasks!
Let's discuss further.
Kind regards,
Jon
Response immediately....
Crickey Ian is there a tree under that lot?
Thank you so much for the offer of clearance, I would be delighted for you to do the work but I need to check the situation with Ros Mills.
I shall ask the question and be in touch tomorrow
Many thanks Ian and stay safe
Ros
Response again after Jon replied...
Fab! Sounds like we are all singing from the same song sheet!

Extra photos supplied form Devon PRoW warden Jon Rowlands, who walked the green road
Bridge in the middle or half way through the green road
Theres a bit of work to do there for sure, thanks for the very prompt reply, love it!
Yes weve done clearance work before on the Roncombe river in the parish of Sidmouth (under P3), similar case with heavy duty branches building up in front of the bridge and the under side to, we winched them out the way with my Tirfor winch to the near side river bank, saved the bridge for sure, so Im not a stranger to the effects of debris near bridges
Happy to tackle the trees but understand your concerns with the larger Oak, I know my limitations and will of course leave well alone if I dont think the tree is an easy job, however saying that if there is an available stable tree to fix my winch strop to we could be in business for slowly winching her of the bank, obviously I dont know any of this until a site inspection is carried out.
Weve got interest within the Devon TRF in the role of volunteers lined up, well be waiting for yourself and Ros to reply with any feedback we receive from you, even if your uncertain with the larger tree Im sure the volunteer crew would be happy to remove the debris from around the bridge plus check any other small issues on the Eastern side of the UCR.
Lets keep in contact and work a way forward to resolve a few blockages and make the green road safer and more importantly open to all users
The TRF is largely about conserving green roads! Especially with the geography of Devon we all have a huge list of jobs to do!
Many many thanks ros for the response (as always a great credit to the Devon PRoW team, thanks) its great to see things progressing well, I thank you!
Keep safe
Really looking forward to speaking to you both tomorrow
Hi Wacky Any up date ? I could be available, was going for a ride but can do that another day. Cheers John.
Sorry John
wont be happening - Insurance
Whilst not understanding the reason, I'll find something else to do this Sunday.
Need a copy of the TRF insurance to send to Devon PRoW, if all okay and it ticks the boxes then we are a Go!
I've finally convinced them I'm not a Muppet when it comes to clearing the fallen trees and have invested heavily into the gear I/we need to complete the job
We're also on the Brink of becoming DTRF-P3 with (Hopefully) a back up of funding, so we will be more in-line with the Parish Paths partnership or taken into that group within Devon County
PRoW already know about the blockage....been in discussion with them over the matter,
got hung up over the insurance issue...
waiting for the insurance clarification before proceeding.......
Yes I know that Ian, I was just trying to spur them into action, because it's been like this since June.
However, of course, that failed because Highways had handed responsibility for maintenance of this lane to PROW, so they have immediately washed their hands of my fallen tree report by replying Cat 12 (green lane) no longer maintained at public expense when they really mean, no longer maintained at our public funded departments expense, but by another publicly funded department.
It's a big tree, from a high bank, still attached.
Had a good look, walked down through. Machinery been in and pretty much destroyed the trail. I couldn't really find any sign of where it used to be.
Perhaps DCC might have an answer.
I hope so.

Think I've lost the plot.
Met a nice lady back of Oxton house who pointed out the first section is a permitted something. Last time I rode this part her f*******g house wasn't even built!
I was everso polite, apologised and told her I wouldn't ride it again. The reason was that her dog didn't like bikes.
Luckily I was lost for words, wished her well and carried on.
Lovely day, by the way.
Devon PRoW have been informed of our intentions to clear plus winch out the fallen tree form the river
Reply form R.D. thanking and looking forward to the photos of works carried out
A previous email form Jon R. wishing to grade the lane and add a ditch
I replied there was no need as the surface was good apart from one section over the bridge which is ankle deep with mud, I've offered to install a raised walk way just for residents or other users wishing to cross the bog. The walkway would only have a limited width so as not to spoil the fun for trail bikes
I've tried to stave off a sanitisation of this green road but haven't received no reply from Jon R.
John, thanks very much for the reply, your most welcome and yes plenty to do
Doug, done most of the wood cutting but there is still one tree in the river to pull out and cut, so yes if you like Bud
Nick, Always glad to have you on board mate, I'll post a photo of a map tonight
Gentlemen, I'll pop up to the farm and check how many digger tracks I have, we can insert a walkway on the road in the boggy section
Don't forget to bring some PPE, wellies, gloves, coat Etc.
I'll bring some work signs, wheel barrow, rope for hauling out the tree as there is enough bodies we can pull this out by hand
If there are enough digger tracks for the walkway, we'll need some buckets for hauling stone or wheelbarrows, shovels, spades, long stem shovels Etc
Please PM your next of kin contact tele/mobile number then I'll add it to the risk assessment, no data will be kept on file as I'll do risk assessment per job
Gentlemen, Parking can be found out on the yellow road, wide enough for other cars to pass and probably park 4 cars there, if sensible parking is achieved
Thank you to everyone who has sent in their next of kin details, cheers for that, much appreciated
