Local knowledge

In a few weeks time a few of us were hoping to follow the GWT from Dorchester on a Saturday  for Aprox 120 miles I have worked out that we should be close to Ivybridge we was hoping to camp the night somewhere, then pick up the trail again at Mortenhampstead on Sunday for the trip back , any one with local knowledge that can recommend a tent campsite ideal at the back of a pub that is bike friendly? I know the plume of feathers at prince town , but not sure how long it would take to get there from Ivybridge ? Any suggestions appreciated , cheers Kev

You can camp here in the field!!
Got outside civilised toilet, kettle in the stables etc.
Five Mile Farm, Bartonhead Hill, Tedburn st Mary, Exeter, EX66AJ

If pissing down, can kip upstairs over stables.

Im about 12 miles from Moretonhampstead, Weymouth side
Any good?

Been at yours a few years ago for a ride out with a group I brought down , rode with you and Steve Harcus , remember sittting out side at yours placeIn the sun having a lovely bit of grub that your kind lady put on

Hi Kev

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago when I took your old DR on the same trip.

summerhillfarmcampsite.co.uk/index.php/camping/

Pub is close by but stops serving food at 9pm, we missed it so got an indian takeaway in the village.

Yes it was.

Only had three days so cut a few corners on the TET route to get down to the campsite at Ashburton. Planned to stay two nights, riding from there down to Tavistock on the TET route then back across Dartmoor to the campsite on the second day before riding back but the weather had other ideas.

So we binned off the second night under canvas and booked a B&B in Sidmouth. We picked up the TET route near Totnes and followed it back West to Sidmouth then Sidmouth to home on Day 3.

The mighty DR cleared everything, my mates KTM 790 only failed to get up Gay's Farm but did have a couple of tumbles when things got muddy/wet due to the tyres.

A few pics...

Bike looks good Dom, many a time I wished I still had it , we was hoping to get to Totnes from Dorchester on the first day and cut across Dartmoor to the plume of feathers pub to camp for one night ,then pick the GWT route on day 2 back up from Mortonhampstead heading back home

Nice little adventure Dom, you ought to write a small article for the news letter, sounds interesting!

Thanks Wacky

You can either do it directly on here in the run reports section, or do it in word format with pictures email it to me and I'll sort it out.

It would be great to have a few more contributors.
