Hi all, I'm not very tech minded but I was using viewranger to plot a route with the ordnance survey map that you could subscribe to. It was easy then just to set off and follow the route on my phone. They have changed and no longer have ordnance survey map available.
With the new green rd maps I can see all the lanes nicely but is there a way to pre plan a route with it to follow, what are others using to follow a route now on a phone or sat nav
I believe the ViewRanger subscriptions are now coming to an end, but as VR were bought out by Outdooractive, you can get a similar product from them. I only have purchased maps from VR, no subscriptions, but I am led to believe that they will continue to honour these map purchases, although maybe not any credits in your VR account.
GreenRoadMap is a reference resource only. You cannot plan a route directly onto GRM or download from it, but you can use it alongside your own mapping software, be it Memory Map, VR, Garmin etc.
Hopefully someone else will add to his thread with whether the Devon group overlays can be used on Outdooractives platforms like we could on VR app.
In the meantime I am still using Memory Map with the Devon group overlays displayed, to plan routes in Devon, and then transfer the route to my android phone running VR with purchased maps. Outside of Devon I would run the GRM page for the other area alongside the MM screen on my computer, using OS maps and plan the route by looking back and forth.
Thank you for your reply, where can i get the overlays to plan a route and transfer it to view ranger app. i will also look at memory map
send an email to John Leah johnleah@blueyonder.co.uk include your TRF membership number, and he will send you a comprehensive email including the sought after overlays.
Whilst you can display all the overlays at one time on the VR app, you cannot do it on the VR webpage.
Any questions, just post up and someone will help out.
Don't forget that AlpineQuest happily uses Memory Map .mmo format OS maps so, if ODA/VR has ceased to be suitable for our needs, then AQ may be a viable alternative.
It would be good to hear from those that have migrated their account from ViewRanger to the new Outdooractive app, your experiences, opinions, whether the overlays will still work.
I have seen a lot of complaints on walking forums, but it's not clear if the product is not as good or it's the users that don't like change.
