Golden Merit for 'Ham lane' works

Devon TRF receives golden merit for Ham lane works

Sunday 29th May 2022 four volunteers arrived for the monthly work party on Ham lane Dalwood parish. (We are now on our Ninth working party visit)

Unfortunately the Devon TRF were out numbered and in the minority at this months meeting with only myself and Ray in attendance flying the DTRF flag

Ros Davies form DCC PRoW (Ros on her third visit on this project) volunteered with duties.

Duties of the day included

Attaching more grippers to sleepers

Lugging up 2 more digger tracks

In filling digger tracks with stone

Moving sleepers into position for supporting washed out road surface

Looking at & discussing future works on Ham lane

Whilst we were revisiting the trailer to unload more gear for duties on Sunday Ray spotted some cyclist approaching and promptly said we have company!

They were university lads on Gravel bikes or cross country bikes on an adventure for sure, they were enjoying the (New)

East Devon Trail bike packing route

115-mile route, created by Katherine Moore

Ros who was thrilled with the news and gave FULL Praise to the Devon TRF! Equal praise to the frequent volunteers outside of the DTRF

Ros reeled off the advantages straight away with excitement in her voice explaining the raw benefits to the local Devon community.

(Ros said she would let people know about this amazing update in her office DCC next week)

This brings economy to the locals as the cyclist camped at Branscombe the night before

Sustainable travel

Zero carbon travel

Ham lane has multiple users this is in strong evidence now with it being part of the EDTBPR

HUGE thanks to ALL the volunteers of Ham lane working party

Well done to you all my friends

The last two were on a separate ride (which I didn't realise at the time) I got them to join in on the photo as they approached Ham lane on the other green road

Great report Ian

you have all done a great job there, with more to do.  It would be great if more people joined in, both from DTRF and the local community.

It is an example of what can be done when someone leads who has a passion to get stuff sorted.

Respect to Ros, my shoulders are getting worse.

Thanks Trevor really appreciate the vocal support plus all your valuable assistance with this project to date

Boots on the ground do work, you ought to have seen the users refusing to help Sunday, they were locals watching the monthly progress and denying they could muster some muscle to help the cause no Not even a bloody bacon sarnie would they bring down - Nope! We tried.....

We'll be back to sort the Ash tree when the time is right, oh there is some Holly there too - good burning winkbiggrinbiggrin

Can't beat a bit of Wacky Wood winkbiggrinbiggrin

A fantastic result Wacky and long may it continue.

What you have achieved wth regards to the way we are perceived by PRoW, local Councilers, the natives and the user groups is beyond measure and will hold us in good stead for a long time.

Thank You !

Thanks Noel

Appreciate the feedback

We encounter loads of people using 'Ham' always chat to them on every visit offering them the chance to volunteer along side us now or in the future, no takers thus far mate.... TRF (motorcycles) are the minority user with loads of regular use from the neighbour hood, young and old from all walks of life I guess.

There is a hidden agenda to make this a success and hopefully we can try and tame some of that water flow to help reinstate the roads surface, more to do, we'll never finish but we'll win the hearts of the locals as they are very appreciative of our monthly achievements as they wait to see the next instalment of works.

Special tools next time to sort a few things.......biggrin
