Pyrenees, Andorra and French TET

As per the title me and the Frankinhonda are heading for Santanda in May For 2 weeks

Going to take a tent and a fistful of euros and play it by ear.

Not sure how far I can I can get in a day but don't want to put myself under pressure.

Probably use hotels or hostels if they are available.

I know some of you have done it already along with everyone who owns a trail bike in Europe if you look on Facebook and YouTube.

Obviously I have a route but open to any advice, hints or tips to enhance my travel.

cheers Trevor

Hey Trevor,

I did the Pyrenees ACT last September, after riding down through France and taking in some of the TET route.
It's plotted as a five day trip. I took a rest day staying in Andorra after a having already riding six long days in a row.

It was a great trip, very solitary in places and with some stunning scenery. I started the route at the Mediterranean end purely as it worked in with catching the Santander ferry home afterwards. Riding solo for most of the trip I had no problem finding accomodation, nothing was pre booked and I carried a tent just in case of breakdowns or not being able to find a room. Obviously riding a T7 there were no breakdowns!! winkBut a puncture at the end of along day might have required a bit of camping whilst stuck in the middle of nowhere. I usually rode until I'd had enough and just called into a hotel and asked for a room. I used air b&b and booking.com as well, booking again late afternoon and finding somewhere within an hour of where I was.

I met a few other riders on the ACT, surprisingly few and far between though. Some Spanish riders out doing day trips that lived locally, a group of six Brits going the opposite way were in a cafe one lunchtime. We ate together and swapped info on what we had come across.

I rode the final day or so with two German guys I had met on the route.

The route is definitely big bike suitable. Their were a couple of sections where I had to be careful as dropping a 200kg bike can be a  bit of struggle  to pick up by yourself as I'm sure you are aware.

PM me if you want any more specific info Trevor, enjoy. You will have a ball!!

I'd like to say just the Sun and Stars Trevor!!winkbiggrin But the Garmin Montana came in handy with pre loaded routes. I also had my phone as backup and a large scale map of the area.

Great idea! We are going with Bonny and @half a dozen other. To Santander, then West as there is a circle of the Picos and across to Oviedo. Been to the Picos before on a pushbike but Im hoping to cover more ground this time! Helen, and the others, will be on CRFs, in the main. Fingers Xd for good weather!

our experience is that there is virtually no trail riding in the Picos now. A few years ago we were chased by a park ranger and asked for our passports and we were on a sealed road outside the national park.

Hi.  It would be great to know how you got on with this? Planning on a journey to the Picos next year.  Will be likely the missus first big trip away Offroad so be good to know how the terrain was and if you had any issues??

I did the northern TET ( picos )route and found Archie's camping app very useful ( £2.50 well spent )but a lot of places were closed down . google is your friend if you have coverage . I make sure my Garmin XT has been updated before leaving as it has a very good data base of camp /hostels/  places to stay . Off to do the ACT July and I am off to France tomorrow on the TET .Life is short enjoy the ride
