I've had an email from a Somerset rider suggesting that there is now a Public Footpath sign at the eastern end of 181-041.
I cannot find any notification of this, and all the Devon County Council records still show it as a UCR, and with no footpath coming off the route further up, it's not a sign requiring one of our 'To' stickers.
If anyone is passing, please look out and maybe take a photograph for me, so I can chase it up.
Google Street View suggests there is a sign there, but I cannot read it. Thanks.
Intriguingly there is also a Public Footpath sign on street view at the other end on 181-041 which points away from 181-041 toward the Footpath 150 yards away on the other side of the road which goes to Pithayne farm.
Footpath signs should point along the direction of the Footpath and should be sited at the nearest metalled road to the Footpath.
Since there is also a sign at the start of the Footpath to Pithayne it seems the pair on 181-041 are there incorrectly, unless there has been a DMMO to 'create' a new Footpath on 181-041. Perhaps Russell knows something but I think he would have said had there been a notification. Maybe he can confirm this to rule it out.
Thanks Pete. There was actually a recent DMMO to re-route Hemyock Footpath No 18 away from Pithayne Farm just to the west, and I guess someone then put these signs in the wrong location.
The original TRF member has already re-visited 181-041 and confirms there are Footpath signs at both ends, both of which have 'To' stickers on.
I will contact PROW to bring this to their attention, as even with the 'To' stickers, they are causing some confusion and are unnecessary on this lane.
