A couple of weekends ago a small group of us were thwarted by fallen trees at Ashcombe.  Regulars will be aware that the locals really don't like us riding this lane, and that fallen trees remain fallen.

Most could be squeezed under without too much trouble, but one blocked our way and we got around it by entering the stream earlier.

The sun came out a few days later so, armed with my trusty £60 Amazon 8" electric chainsaw, I parked by the church and minced up the lane disquised as a lost rambler.

To my great suprise, the little chainsaw made quick and quiet work of the blockage, and the way is now clear again.

I was also delighted to find an old "TRY YOUR BRAKES" roadsign propped up in the hedge along the stream suggesting, despite the protestations of the locals and landowner, that this is / was an actual road.

The lane is in the process of being reclaimed by nature so, if you're in the area, please be sure to add this lovely little dead end to your ride.

Use it or lose it comes to mind.

Been a few years since I have bothered with this dead end lane as I always remember the locals being a little hostile!!

Fantastic Tim 

Nice little battery saws them, thought about getting one its just the battery timeout that is dissapointing but still its a nice bit of kit - how long do you get out of a battery then? 

Nowt wrong with riding this lovely dead end UCR' totally legal, I love it! 

Looks like the locals are winning tho if trail riders are scared of riding it nono

Thanks Wacky.  It's a generic 8" saw that comes in a hard case with a spare chain and 2 rechargeable batteries.  I think they say it's good for 4" thick branches, but it made short work of that 6 to 8 inch fallen branch.  I cut it in two places to remove a section and still had some life left in the first battery.  The second battery stayed in my backpack unused.  TBH I was surprised at it's capabilities as I'd previously only used it for minor works in the back garden.  And the quietness, it is very quiet.
