Lacing a wheel true

Good afternoon,

Having got a puncture recently I decided to get a new tyre and innertube. Upon removing the protective tape from the inner rim i noticed some corrosion that i deem unsafe. Time for a new rim. Its an 96 XR400 and i suspect its the original.

Do most people send them off? I would be keen to have a go myself if the opportunity presented itself. I'm based in Willand.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

I used the Devon rim company now operating from Crediton recently and was very happy with the rim and the service. I am not sure the Devon Rim Company do Ali rims.

Somerset TRF have an account with Talon and can get their rims at a reasonable price. I really enjoy building wheels I find it very satisfying getting them laced and trued. A cheap wheel balancing stand makes it easier.

Thank you.

I did reach out to Doug in South Molton he has a large amount on at the moment so would not be able to help for 3 months or so.

Will ask up at the Crediton company to see if they have scope.

Appreciate  the help

O

Like for like, the job is straightforward.
You're welcome to visit.
I've been through the same process, done several over the years.
I build my own wheels, powder coat my hubs and have a really good spoke supplier in Ying Tong
4mm good quality (really been tested!), 21" front set and 18" different length side for side set delivered £53 all in.
I wanted Crediton chap to do my first set. He really knows what he's about, but doesn't suffer fools gladly - I was that fool until I got through.
I wanted to build my own, but needed to buy his spokes.
"You won't be able" and the price was prohibitive (for me).
So I HAD to learn, built the jigs and, tentatively, have a go.
Pm me if you want some hints, suppliers etc.
