Looking for a 125cc road registered trail/enduro bike

LookIng for a bike for my girlfriends 17 year old lad. He has a nice 50cc Speedfight at the moment but wants to try is hand on the Devon green lanes.
He does a few miles commuting each day so a 2 stroke or 4 stroke would be equally fine. DT125R sounds like fun, but I'd consider an XR125 or something like that...
