What is the best way to transport a bike? I am thinking about selling my car and buying a pick-up or possibly a van! Not keen on towing really! Opinions please!

A friend of mine wants to get a full bike licence, get a trail bike & ride the lanes ASAP. Is there an intensive course out there, like for a car licence? Any recommendations? I suggested he get a 125 on L plates but he'd rather just get on with it.
Me and 5 friends are green laning for 3 days this weekend, our first pit stop will be newton abbot. We will be at 202-007 about lunch time any advice where to get some food nearby, nothing gourmet.
