What 125?

My lad has been talking of getting a 125cc bike when he is 17. He is a keen off road rider and I wondered if a Yamaha DT125RE would be the way to go so he could green lane with me. What do you recommend? Are the Yamaha's any good? Might even try one myself so we have matched bikes if it can handle 14 stone! Cheers...
